Dreaming of a healthy sleep cycle?

Dreaming of a healthy sleep cycle?

Did you know low oestrogen levels can disrupt sleep?

This is because of its influence on the body’s absorption of magnesium, a key mineral supporting melatonin production. Low oestrogen decreases magnesium metabolism, which is why you may experience greater restlessness leading up to your period.

High cortisol levels can also affect our sleep cycle. In the evening, cortisol levels in the body should decrease just as melatonin levels rise, however high levels of stress or tension can disrupt this. The result – drifting off into a deep restful night’s sleep becomes a challenge.

Essential oils can help to maintain healthy levels of cortisol and oestrogen, which both contribute to a healthy sleep and hormonal cycle. Here are two recipes you can try at home…

Stress buster roller blend (10ml)

  • 7 drops Vetiver
  • 10 drops Bergamot
  • 8 drops Lavender
  • 5 drops Frankincense
  • Top up with fractionated coconut oil.

Tip – when tensions are running high, apply to pulse points on wrist, neck and behind the ears. Inhale from wrists to reap aromatic benefits.

Restful sleep roller blend (10ml)

  • 8 drops Lavender
  • 4 drops Vetiver
  • 5 drops Ylang Ylang
  • Top up with fractionated coconut oil.
